How It All Works
Producers, suppliers and agents are invited to submit their wines and provide us with the wine’s details, price and retail availability. Three bottles of each wine arrive at Don’t Panic Events storage facility where they are logged, and categories checked against the online application process.
The deadline for submission is 23rd June 2017.
First round judging
The first round of judging takes place in early July in Manchester and London.
Judges will consist mainly of wine lovers who are carefully selected from an online application process.
WSET qualified instructors will give basic instructions on how to taste wine and to explain the judging process.
The judges will not know who produced the wine or the brand name but will taste it according to the category entered and assess its suitability for the category, whether they like the wine and their perception of quality.
The top 8 wines in each category will go through to a second round judging panel to assess the overall winners in each category.
We will select 5 ‘supertasters’ – amateur judges we feel show the most promise and tasting ability from their assessment of the wines.
Second round judging
This second round of judging will take place in mid-July.
Judges will consist of WSET students, wine writers and bloggers and the 5 ‘supertasters’ selected from the first round.
The overall winners will be selected using a points system. Simply those with the most points will win the overall category. These wines will be awarded at the ceremony on 5th October 2017 at the Montcalm Hotel, London.
Judges can purchase tickets for the ceremony here.
Results and promotion
All results, including the shortlisted and winning wines will be shown on The People’s Choice Wine Awards website and included in press releases to consumer and trade publications.
Producers can label winning wines with bottle neck sleeves for consumers to recognise in their stores.
The People’s Choice Wine Awards will organise two consumer facing wine fairs to showcase the shortlisted and winning wines in London and Manchester in 2018. This will give consumers a chance to taste, review and buy the wines for themselves. Further details to follow.
