ENTRIES

Producers, suppliers and agents are invited to submit their wines and provide us with the wine’s details, price and retail availability. Three bottles of each wine are required and must be sent to the delivery address on the website.  They will be logged, and checked against the online application process.

The deadline for submissions is 31st August 2018.

FIRST ROUND JUDGING

The first round of judging takes place early in October.

Judges consist of wine enthusiasts who are carefully selected from an online application process and include WSET students at all levels.  Each judging table includes a member of the wine trade.

WSET qualified instructors will give basic guidance on how to taste wine and to explain the judging process.

The judges do not know who produced the wine, the price, grape or the brand name but will taste and assess it according to the category entered and their perception of the quality level using a points based scoring system.

The shortlisted wines in each category will go through to the second-round judging panel to establish the overall winners.

We will select a handful of ‘supertasters’ – amateur judges we feel show the most promise and tasting ability from their assessment of the wines.

SECOND ROUND JUDGING

This second round of judging takes place in early October.

Round 2 judges are shown on the website and will be joined by the ‘supertasters’ selected from the first round as well as two WSET students at levels 3 and 4, selected from an exclusive competition organised with WSET Global, who is our Official Education Partner.

The overall winning wines will be selected using a points based scoring system.  These wines will be revealed at an exciting awards ceremony in February 2019 situated in Manchester.  The event will be filmed and live-streamed on Facebook and will be hosted by prominent consumer wine champions.  It will be a great opportunity to get together with colleagues and the wine buying public in an informal setting with great local food and, of course, fabulous wine.  You won’t need to take out a small mortgage to pay for the tickets!

RESULTS AND PROMOTION

The shortlist of wines will be announced at the beginning of November 2018.  They will be publicised by our Official Trade Media Partner, The Buyer.  The results will also be shown on the PCWA website and promoted on social media and via press releases to prominent trade and consumer publications.

The winning wines will be announced at the awards ceremony in February 2019 and publicised by The Buyer.  They will be shown on the PCWA website and promoted on social media and via press releases to prominent trade and consumer publications.  Producers and suppliers can purchase stickers for the bottles and artwork to promote instore or online.  They can also access the unique artwork, created by Tony Husband for each of the award categories, by arrangement with the organiser.

The People’s Choice Wine Awards will showcase the wines at prominent consumer wine fairs in 2019.  This will give consumers an opportunity to taste, review and buy the wines for themselves.  Further details of where these fairs will take place will follow shortly.
